Are you a force for good? Does the opportunity to devote your talents to a cause much greater than yourself excite you? Do you enjoy connecting the right stories with the right journalists on a national scale? The Arbor Day Foundation is a place where you can do work that matters, with people who care. As we say at the Foundation: life is short, love where you work.

As one of the world's largest conservation organizations, the Arbor Day Foundation inspires people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. We help others understand and use trees as a solution to global issues (like air quality, water quality, climate change, deforestation, poverty, and hunger) that are critical to survival.

The Arbor Day Foundation is seeking a Sr. Manager, Public Relations and Media to join our Marketing and Communications team to develop national media and public relations strategies to further establish credibility and elevate the visibility of the Foundation.

You Have:

  • Passion. For the Foundation’s mission, nature, environmental stewardship, and people.
  • Proven leadership ability. You’re no stranger to providing leadership and guidance at every level across an organization. You cultivate relationships internally and with the media and other influencers.
  • The Experience. You’ve been writing, editing and producing CEO and Leadership communications for 5+ years.
  • Data-based strategies. You use data to adapt strategy and provide insights and thought leadership while focusing on proactive strategies to protect and advance reputation.
  • World-class communication talents. You don’t settle for less than delivering best-in-class, innovative, strategic public relations whether it’s pitching media outlets or collaborating across project partners.

You Will:

  • Collaborate with others. You will work with a broad range of team members and departments to drive positive visibility, raise awareness, and define the strategic plan.
  • Develop strategy. Alongside the Director of Communications & Public Relations, you will develop national media and public relations strategies to further establish credibility and elevate the visibility of the Foundation and the impact of our work.
  • Set big goals. You will set earned media goals and develop the strategies to exceed them.
  • Pitch national media daily. This job is all about connecting the right stories with the right journalists on a national scale. That doesn’t scare you, it excites you.
  • Anticipate what’s next. The window of opportunity to engage media can be short, but you already know that. It’s why you don’t wait for direction on what to do next to land a pitch.
  • Take ownership. Everything we do is with collaboration in mind, but the success of our PR & media relations program rests with you. You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and pitch media stories, create press releases, prep team members, and manage interviews across mediums to keep our stories and impact showing up.
  • Connect the dots, maximize awareness. Our team lives and breathes the news. We know how to connect our stories with what is interesting and relevant for national media contacts across several channels including media, reporters, web, blogs, and printed materials to maximize exposure.

Love Where You Work:

  • We're in this together. A culture focused on a genuine interest in the wellbeing of others, collaboration, and the intrinsic shared purpose to do what's right. We pride ourselves on the culture we've built. We love it, and we know you will too.
  • We care about your health. We offer competitive healthcare (health, dental, vision) coverage for you and your loved ones matched with a wellness incentives program.
  • We invest in your future. Company paid short-term and long-term disability, paid parental leave, life insurance and 401k with company match are available.
  • We know the little things matter. Team members receive a monthly transportation stipend, a fully stocked kitchen, and access to a plethora of benefits at Arbor Day Farm.
  • We care about your growth. We allocate 40+ hours annually for our team members to focus on learning and development.
  • We want you to unplug when needed. We believe in taking your time off without guilt, including the week between Christmas and New Years that we close our Lincoln Campus to recharge.
  • We'll round out the experience. We put our culture first, and we host events and experiences throughout the year to show that we care about you (and your family).
