About Holtara

What we stand for:

Our current economic system has brought unprecedented levels of welfare and prosperity. Yet, it is clear that the ways we produce, consume, and finance will need to change. We believe that investors play a crucial role in this transition: first, by better understanding the impact of their investments on climate change, ecosystems, and society; and second, by actively challenging their investments to reduce negative impacts while capturing the opportunities the sustainability transition provides.

What we do:

Holtara is leading the way in building effective ESG & sustainability programs, combining expert advisory and technology services across the investment lifecycle. We support investors, asset managers, and businesses in translating sustainability ambition into measurable action, helping them create real impact today for a more sustainable tomorrow.

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors, while non-financial, can have a material impact on a company’s long-term risk profile and financial performance. Companies that effectively apply ESG practices tend to be more responsible, less risky, and better positioned for long-term success.

As investors increasingly recognise the importance of ESG, they work with us to measure, analyse, and improve the sustainability performance of their investments. Together with companies across a wide range of geographies and industries, we assess current ESG performance, define clear improvement priorities, and support implementation over time. By working directly with company management — supported by committed investors — we are able to drive real, measurable impact and track progress year after year.

About The Role

As an Intern in our Advisory team in Amsterdam, you will work closely with senior consultants on active client engagements in sustainability. You may contribute to projects such as carbon footprint assessments, ESG due diligence reports, regulatory and sustainability disclosures, and client workshops.

This is a paid, full-time internship position, designed for students or recent graduates who are passionate about sustainability and want to accelerate their careers by developing practical consulting skills. Learning takes place primarily through hands-on participation in client projects, with close guidance from experienced colleagues. You will develop yourself rapidly in a dynamic and fast-paced setting, take on meaningful responsibilities, and contribute to creating sustainable impact at scale.

What you will be working on

  • Analyse and solve. Conduct desk research, GHG footprint calculations, social impact assessments, materiality analyses, and policy benchmarking; translate data into actionable insights.
  • Craft deliverables. Build models, slides, dashboards, and reports that translate complex sustainability topics into clear narratives for clients and investors.
  • Support client engagement. Help facilitate client meetings, workshops, strategic sessions, and trainings.
  • Research. Stay up to date on industry trends, regulatory developments, voluntary standards, and best practices. Summarize key insights for the team and build your knowledge in sustainability topics.

What you bring

  • Educational background. Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Experience. Demonstrated affinity with and practical exposure to ESG and sustainability, or finance and (impact) investing.
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to structure, analyse, and translate qualitative and quantitative data into meaningful insights. Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel is preferred.
  • Communication. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to tailor messages to both team members and executive audiences. Fluency in Dutch is a strong preference.
  • Collaboration DNA. Thrives in diverse, cross-functional teams; eager to develop rapidly and open to receiving and acting on feedback.
  • Mindset. Proactive and self-starting, with a strong sense of ownership and a willingness to actively seek out learning opportunities.

What we offer

A paid, 5-month internship where you’ll gain practical consulting experience through hands-on involvement in client projects. You’ll work closely with experienced colleagues in our Amsterdam team, contributing to meaningful sustainability work with real impact.

We offer fair remuneration in line with the Dutch minimum wage and a professional environment that supports learning and personal development. You will also be part of an engaged, dynamic team that values connection and often organizes fun social activities for the team, both in and outside of work.

Our advisory team is based in Amsterdam, London, Madrid, and New York City and consists of people from varying backgrounds and cultures — all driven by the aim to create meaningful impact.

We recognize that diversity makes for good business as it stimulates more ideas, opinions, and perspectives. We are committed to the maintenance of a professional inclusive environment that recruits, retains, develops, remunerates, and promotes all of our people.

We encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. For questions about the position or application process, please reach out nout.gerhards@holtara.com
