Job Description


The Market Intelligence team produces the recommendations that drive Apex’s overall strategy. In this role, summer associates will support data collection and research tasks that are foundational to our industry-leading and proprietary approach to project, prospect, and opportunity valuation. Summer associates will learn how to distill and meaningfully interpret data including: regulatory filings, load forecasts, macroeconomic data, and a host of plant/generator/unit data. Summer associates will gain familiarity with internal forecasting methodologies and third-party power forecasts, grow in their understanding of dataset and database management, and interface with Apex’s internal SMEs and ultimately develop a valuable working understanding of the development process for renewable energy in the United States.

We are looking for summer associates who are passionate about accelerating the shift to a clean energy future and are currently pursuing or have recently completed an undergraduate degree in a related field. Candidates should have an outstanding academic record, be detail-oriented, and feel comfortable using Excel. Candidates will have gained exposure to some basic information on power markets, renewable energy, or energy policy through coursework, extracurricular activities, or prior internship experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Track asset-level data (e.g. PPAs, retirements, ownership changes, commercializations) and input them accurately into Apex’s proprietary database;
  • Support market analysis and research tasks as needed, including tracking and distilling IRPs/ERPs, RFP results, utility/RTO/BA load forecasts, EIA generation data outputs, etc.;
  • Attend meetings with a wide variety of internal SMEs on a host of topics;
  • Track and compile third-party data assumptions and compare/contrast external forecasts; and,
  • Perform other duties and investigations as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g. finance, energy, economics, environmental science, government) with an outstanding academic record;
  • Detail-oriented with good cross-functional (quantitative and qualitative) analytical skills;
  • Comfortable using M.S. Excel;
  • Exposure to basic information on power markets, renewable energy, or energy policy preferred;
  • Experience handling data from the EIA, a power utility, an RTO/ISO, Bloomberg Terminal, S&P Market Intelligence/CAPIQ, IHS Markit, Wood Mackenzie, etc., is a bonus.

  • The summer associate program will run from June 5 through August 11 but we can be flexible with the start and end dates
