Job Description

Apex is seeking an experienced renewable energy professional to join our Business Development team as a Manager who will be responsible for supporting corporate, commercial and industrial (“C&I”) power marketing relationships to support origination and closing of renewable energy purchase and sales, and other related transactions. Duties will include acquiring new customers and supporting RFP responses and the negotiation of PPAs. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience supporting C&I renewable procurements. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, leading market analysis of utilities and C&I purchasers, leading the analysis of competing power suppliers, identifying and tracking utility and energy policy trends, and creating business opportunities from those trends. Strong candidates will have in-depth knowledge and/or direct experience with C&I procurement processes, as well as understanding of renewable energy, emissions, carbon, and other ESG-related goals. This role will require collaboration with colleagues across departments to accomplish your goals. Candidates must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office. This position will report to the Vice President of Business Development and will work closely with the development, finance, construction, legal, and business development teams. This position is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, and requires up to 20-30% travel.


  • Support C&I relationship building with existing and prospective customers.
  • Support RFP process and PPA negotiations
  • Advises and helps customers identify, design, configure, and support customized applications and solutions.
  • Anticipates, identifies, and interprets industry trends and implications and applies this knowledge to access new market segments and gain new customers.
  • Represent the company at industry related events and conferences.
  • Build relationships across the company and industry.
  • Gathers intelligence and develops competitive assessments regarding upcoming opportunities.
  • Manages client service functions, including development, sales, and post-sales support activities.


  • Either a graduate degree in an energy or business-related field or several years of direct industry experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully negotiated PPAs or other power sales.
  • Strong organization skills, able to multi-task, and can manage time to meet frequently changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Ability to work proactively and productively with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.
