Job Description


Apex is seeking an Energy Storage Analyst who will be responsible for utilizing internal and external resources to assist with identifying, analyzing, and acquiring utility scale storage opportunities nationwide. The role will assist in developing a robust and strategic storage project pipeline for the company.

In this role you will work interdepartmentally to use identified target areas of interest across the US, develop appropriate methodology for evaluating each region for potential project sites, and assist with site acquisition. The role requires you to work with internal teams (Business Development, Development, Construction, Transmission, Land, Resource, GIS, Finance, Environment, Public Affairs) to assist with preliminary due diligence and fatal flaw review for greenfield and acquisition project sites.

Our ideal candidate will come into this role with at least 2 to 4 years of related analysis and/or energy development experience. This position requires a strong understanding of project management - organizing, planning, and meeting deadlines. The Energy Storage Analyst is responsible for supporting locating, evaluating, and acquisition of potential standalone energy storage sites. This includes:

  • Utilize spatial analysis and database tools to analyze a high volume of target locations and identify potential prospects for utility scale energy storage projects.
  • Prepare summary reports of data from parcel analysis with shapefiles for proposed prospects.
  • In coordination with the Energy Storage Team and Development, assist with due diligence and fatal flaw review of green field storage project and acquisitions opportunities.
  • In coordination with the Environmental Team, assist with necessary high level preliminary desktop research, due diligence, and fatal flaw review on potential target sites.
  • In coordination with the Land Team, track preparation of term sheets, leases and/or purchase option for target sites. Assist in negotiations for real estate acquisitions.
  • Prepare and maintain land value database to support site control.
  • Organize, store, and transmit project information effectively using internal file structure and data management systems.
  • Support due diligence by researching and understanding state and local land-use permitting requirements for energy storage projects.
  • Prepare and manage tracking system for project site evaluation and status.
  • Work cross-departmentally to maintain clear communication and smooth collaboration during the analysis of project parcels.
  • Travel to project site locations, as needed

Qualifications


To succeed as an
Energy Storage Analyst at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to display excellence within the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, environmental science, geography or engineering strongly preferred
  • At least 2-4 years of directly related experience in energy storage or energy development, direct battery storage experience preferred.
  • A strong understanding of project management preferred.
  • A strong understanding of the development process of renewable energy projects, with preference towards energy storage.
  • Knowledge and/or professional experience with other RTOs and Independent System Operators (ISO)s, transmission systems, and power project engineering are advantageous.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to meet frequently changing deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to manage and track multiple detailed projects simultaneously and complete tasks efficiently
  • Strong computer and internet skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with ArcGIS, and/or Smartsheet strongly preferred
  • Location: Willing and able to work from our Headquarters in Charlottesville, Virginia. Remote work may be approved for the right candidate.

  • Willing and able to travel 15-25% to evaluate sites, as needed
