Job Description


Apex Clean Energy is seeking a Director of Performance Reliability and Engineering (PRE) to join the leadership team in our Asset Management and Operations Department. This leader will build a team that enjoys holistic ownership of site and portfolio wide performance and all associated infrastructure, digital tools, data flows, partners, and visualization/reporting. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Asset Management and Operations, this role will have a hand in crafting the overall ownership strategy for the organization and define the technical mission critical processes, systems, and tools that will allow the overall group to drive the highest value/MWh possible across all of our operating renewable energy assets.
The Director of PRE will have direct oversite and responsibility for all engineering and digital activities associated with operating assets. You will develop and lead fleetwide digital/technology strategy while overseeing the holistic development and implementation of all technical processes and procedures. In addition, this role is responsible for the technical investment decisions that underpin that strategy, ultimately enabling the broader organization to deliver on its commercial and operational objectives.


Qualifications


Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Performance Reliability and Engineering Team and ensure successful portfolio management of Apex’s operating assets
  • Translate commercial and operational objectives into well-defined initiatives that integrate into the company and department business
  • Direct oversite and responsibility for all digital and performance engineering activities
  • Develop and lead fleetwide digital and technology strategy and implementation
  • Responsible for holistic technical process and procedure development and the implementation at all levels
  • Responsible for technical investment decisions and value capture
  • Ensure technical learnings are well documented and feedback loops exist to drive improvement organization wide
  • Develop and grow the technical talent for the PRE Team to manage
  • Own and develop the commercial relationship with technical vendors

Success Profile

To succeed as our Director of PRE, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria:

Required:

  • Proven technical leadership in the energy space and successful experience building and managing a technical team.
  • Strong technical professional background in engineering, electrical design engineering, and/or project engineering role in the wind and/or solar industry
  • Success in building and delivering on Performance and Engineering functions relating to operating wind/solar/battery projects
  • Ability to build a technical
  • Demonstrable experience defining team KPI’s to best meet corporate initiatives and developing supporting metrics to identify and track improvements to ensure target goals and objectives are met
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required upon employment

Desired:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering preferred
  • Experience performing data analysis to improve fleet performance and reliability
  • Experience driving the identification and resolution of product failures; working to optimize plant layout designs and equipment procurement, guide and review commissioning and energy tests.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and communications protocols, substation equipment and utility meters, battery backup systems and inverters, SCADA and MET station equipment.
  • Proficient with wind and/or solar design (AutoCAD), PV performance modelling and analysis, due diligence investigations and NEC/IEC/ISO standards
  • Knowledge of monitoring, SCADA systems, controls, and logical integration
  • Experience leading the RFP process to evaluate monitoring and analysis software providers
  • Management of technical contract scopes and partnerships with third-party providers Significant experience working with O&M subcontractors to locate and resolve system outages

Work Environment:

Works primarily traditional office hours in an indoor office environment. Flexible work hours allowed when work duties and business operations permit.
