Job Description


Apex is seeking a Director of Business Development to lead marketing of renewable energy and associated products and solutions in MISO, SPP, and WECC. This individual will work with utility and other counterparties to identify opportunities for Apex to leverage its portfolio of wind, solar, and storage projects and its capabilities to help customers set and achieve renewable energy goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and pursue opportunities to commercialize Apex wind, solar, and storage projects through offtake agreements or the sale of projects.
  • Develop and broaden relationships with key utility customers, including regulated and unregulated investor owned, cooperative, municipal, and federal utilities.
  • Participate in utility resource planning and state regulatory processes
  • Lead Apex responses to utility Requests for Proposals
  • Work with Apex Business Development, Finance, Transmission and Regulatory teams to identify customer goals / constraints and to develop proposals to accomplish goals.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to work collaboratively with customers to pursue system solutions, including greenfield development of generation, storage, and transmission projects.
  • Provide recommendations to Business Development and New Markets teams as we evaluate expansion of the portfolio and pursuit of new business lines.

Qualifications
  • Significant prior experience with utility procurement and planning
  • Knowledge of power systems, utility decision making, and regulatory processes
  • Network of contacts within electric utility industry
  • Driven and creative individual with the ability to understand and communicate technical solutions to a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively engage with all team members and other high-profile audiences with a high level of finesse, diplomacy, and professionalism
  • Willing to travel as required up to 30%
  • Flexibility on location in Charlottesville or in the Midwest
