Job Description


Apex is seeking a Business Development Manager who will support transactions for the acquisition of renewable energy projects, distributed energy sales, and energy marketing. In this role you will support and/or lead the analysis, structuring, and management of transactions, including deal valuation, proposal generation, diligence, and negotiation. You will also present opportunities and recommendations to Apex senior management. This position will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Business Development and will work closely with other departments within Apex, including Development, Finance, and Asset Management. This position is located in Charlottesville, Virginia and require periodic travel.


Qualifications


Primary Responsibilities

  • Financial modeling, valuation, and structuring of acquisitions, distributed energy offerings, and innovative energy offtake solutions.
  • Manage the Phase I Indicative and Phase II Final diligence, valuation, and proposal process for new opportunities with support from multiple departments
  • Manage the drafting of Investment Memorandums and make proposals and presentations to Apex senior management and Board of Directors as required
  • Work with counterparties and Apex legal, Business Development, and Finance teams to negotiate definitive documentation

Success Profile

To succeed as a Business Development Manager at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria:

  • Experience modeling and valuing renewable energy projects and transactions and familiarity with renewable energy project finance.
  • At least 3 years of prior experience in business development, investment banking, project finance, or financial analysis in the energy sector preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required with a preference for concentrations in Business, Finance, Economics or a related field. Master’s degree or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Must possess excellent attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to productively take ownership of projects while communicating collaboratively throughout the project’s life cycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within and lead multi-disciplinary teams while earning buy-in from team members.
  • Comfortable interfacing successfully with internal and external customers and teammates at all levels within the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, especially Excel and Power Point. Experience using Smartsheet a plus.
  • Articulate with the ability to lead and assist with management, client, and public presentations, exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required upon employment

Work Environment:

Works primarily traditional office hours in an indoor office environment. Flexible work hours allowed when work duties and business operations permit.
