REPORTS TO: Construction Director
We’re doing exciting things, with our highly specialist team
At Apatura, we develop projects that power clean energy and a thriving digital world — from battery storage to data centres. It’s complex, high-impact work, delivered by a highly capable team who move quickly and care deeply about doing things well.
We’re driven by bold ideas, a strong sense of purpose and a willingness to challenge how things are usually done. With a growing pipeline of projects and ambitious plans to expand the business, this role offers the chance to play a key part in supporting Apatura’s next stage of growth.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of our first three grid-connected BESS projects (50MW-150MW). Acting as the key point of contact for clients, contractors, suppliers and project teams, you’ll provide strategic oversight, governance and commercial leadership to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget through to energisation and handover. This is a hands-on role requiring strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to bring diverse teams together to drive successful project outcomes, with significant opportunity to grow alongside our expanding project portfolio.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead the safe, successful and commercially effective delivery of multiple utility-scale BESS projects through to energisation and handover.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, suppliers and key project stakeholders.
- Provide leadership, guidance and support to Project Managers, ensuring consistent standards and delivery across all sites.
- Establish and maintain robust project governance, reporting, controls and assurance processes.
- Monitor programme, budget and project risks, intervening proactively to resolve issues and minimise delays.
- Manage critical interfaces between BESS suppliers, Balance of Plant (BOP) contractors, network operators and other delivery partners.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, funders and the Owner’s Engineer.
- Oversee compliance with health, safety and CDM requirements, promoting a strong safety culture across all projects.
- Protect the company’s commercial position, supporting contract management, change control and claims resolution.
- Manage project budgets, cost forecasts, cash flow and commercial reporting across the portfolio.
- Produce accurate weekly and monthly project reports, providing clear visibility of progress, risks and financial performance.
- Oversee quality, commissioning and handover activities, capturing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement across future projects.
What we’re looking for
- Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline, with a recognised project management qualification (e.g. APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent).
- Proven track record delivering grid-connected BESS projects or comparable energy infrastructure projects from inception through to completion.
- Significant project delivery experience, including several years in a senior project or programme management role.
- Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and drive high-performing project teams.
- Experienced in managing complex stakeholder relationships, including clients, contractors, suppliers, network operators and consultants.
- Commercially astute, with experience managing budgets, forecasts, contract change and project risk.
- Strong understanding of programme management, scheduling and the interdependencies of large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Sound technical awareness, ideally with an electrical or civil engineering background, and the ability to assess project impacts and risks.
- Calm, pragmatic and solutions-focused, with excellent judgement and the ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Self-motivated and proactive, comfortable working independently and driving project outcomes with minimal supervision.
- Full UK driving licence.
What we offer:
- Private medical care with Bupa (household included)
- Enhanced pension scheme
- EV salary sacrifice scheme + cycle-to-work scheme
- 30 days’ annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays to start, increasing with length of service, plus additional leave over the Christmas period
- Access to free, confidential counselling and other wellbeing resources through our Employee Assistance Programme
- Life assurance scheme at 6x salary
