Account Lead (Power Generation)
Preferred Locations: UT, WA, AK, MT (May consider other locations within the US)
Department: Program Management
Full-time | 7+ Years Experience | Power Generation Vertical
Lead client portfolios across thermal, renewables, energy storage, and nuclear-adjacent power generation projects — spanning owner’s engineer, EPC support, and design-only engagements for investor-owned utilities, public power entities, independent power producers (IPPs), and industrial / cogeneration owners.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership. Develop and grow long-term client portfolios across power generation owners — investor-owned utilities, public power (municipals, cooperatives, G&Ts), IPPs, and industrial / cogeneration clients. Build account strategy around capital planning cycles, Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs), PPA structures, and outage / turnaround windows. Support business development and proposals across thermal, renewables, energy storage (BESS), and nuclear-adjacent project types, with immediate emphasis on traditional thermal generation.
Program Delivery. Coordinate execution across owner’s engineer, EPC support, and design-only engagements within your sub-program, tracking KPIs for cost, schedule, safety, and client satisfaction. Lead high-billability projects directly while implementing standardized execution and reporting across both brownfield retrofits (life extension, capital improvements, outage scopes, plant decarbonization) and greenfield builds.
Quality & Safety. Ensure projects adhere to applicable industry standards — including ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, NFPA 70 / 70E / 850, and IEEE — along with client-specific QA programs. Promote proactive approaches to plant-site safety, including arc flash, confined-space entry, lockout/tagout, and elevated work, in both design deliverables and field execution. Facilitate performance reviews and lessons learned across the portfolio.
Commercial Excellence. Oversee scope alignment between projects and client contracts across lump-sum, time-and-materials, and unit-rate structures common in power generation. Manage change control during outage and turnaround windows where schedule slip translates directly to lost MWh and liquidated damages. Support PMs in developing robust scopes and baselines under MSA / task-order frameworks with utility and IPP clients.
Team Development. Mentor Project Leads with power generation depth, supporting career paths that build vertical expertise. Support resource alignment across the sub-program, and provide input on performance reviews and staff development for engineers and PMs serving power generation clients.
What You Bring
Must-Have Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, civil, or structural engineering, or comparable work experience
- Experience: At least 7 years of related engineering experience, with meaningful exposure to power generation projects (thermal, renewables, energy storage, or nuclear)
- Leadership: 5–10 years of Project Leader / PM experience required
- Skills: Proven supervisory capabilities with ability to coordinate multiple project managers across concurrent engagements
- Client Focus: Exceptional relationship skills with focus on trust-building across long capital cycles and outage seasons
- Technical: Solid understanding of power generation systems (turbines, generators, balance-of-plant, controls, electrical distribution), engineering processes, design theory, and project controls
Essential Requirements
- Strong business development and negotiation abilities, including familiarity with utility and IPP contracting models (MSAs, task orders, EPC lump-sum)
- Existing relationships with regulated utilities, public power entities, IPPs, or industrial generation owners highly valued
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills across all stakeholder levels — from plant operators and engineering managers to C-suite and executive sponsors
- Proven ability to prioritize, delegate, and meet deadlines in outage-driven, fast-paced environments
- High degree of initiative, confidence, and commitment to quality outcomes
- Working knowledge of power generation compliance frameworks — such as NERC CIP/PRC, FERC interconnection (LGIA/SGIA), EPA air rules, and state environmental permitting — is a plus
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license preferred
Physical Requirements
- Able to sit/stand, type, and perform computer work for long periods of time
- Frequent use of hands/fingers for computer entry
- Able to perform occasional bending, lifting, and reaching
- Visual acuity sufficient for reading documents, computer screens, and technical drawings
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally in-person, by phone, and via video conferencing
- Hearing ability adequate for meetings, training sessions, and collaboration
- Ability to concentrate and maintain attention for extended periods while managing competing priorities
- Ability to travel to multiple office locations and client sites, including remote or rural generating stations, up to 50% of time
- Able to safely perform field walks at operating power plants — including exposure to elevated temperatures, noise above 85 dBA, and active industrial environments
- Awareness of plant hazards including high-voltage equipment, rotating machinery, steam and high-pressure systems, and chemical handling
- Confined-space and elevated-work awareness; comfort with required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, FR clothing, hearing protection, fall protection, respirators where applicable)
- OSHA 10 or 30 site-safety training is a plus and may be required for client site access
- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
- May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and construction/field sites
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
