Interested in a hands-on role working with cutting edge carbon removal technology? Keep reading!

Anvil Capture Systems is a Boston (Somerville), MA-based startup working to commercialize our novel carbon removal technology. Anvil’s process is uniquely provable, affordable, scalable, and safe, making Anvil a highly competitive entrant in the sector. Anvil is based at Greentown Labs, the largest climate tech incubator in the world.

Reporting directly to Anvil’s co-founders, the Process Engineer will be responsible for designing and constructing novel separation, upgrading, and comminution systems integral to Anvil’s process. The ideal candidate brings significant materials handling experience in the mining industry, and a strong mechanical engineering background. You might have titles like Project Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or Process Engineer on your resume, but what matters most is your hands-on approach and track record of getting complex systems designed, built, and running.

What You Will Do

• Develop designs for our commercial pilot system, working closely with Anvil's co-founders and third-party engineering firms

• Work with third-party laboratories to develop and test bench-scale versions of novel materials handling systems.

• Manage relationships with vendors, EPCs, and fabricators to ensure successful project execution

• Oversee commissioning and start-up of the system, troubleshooting and solving problems as they arise

• Own significant aspects of the overall project, from preliminary through detailed design work

• Spend substantial time initially in Somerville, MA, with travel to our future field sites as construction begins

• Be the company's eyes on the ground ensuring the company’s systems are built correctly, on-time, and on-budget

Experience & Background

• 7+ years of experience (flexible for the right person)

• Strong materials handling experience, particularly with bulk solids in a mining industry context

• Background in mechanical and process engineering

• Experience with material conveyance

• Proficiency with Solidworks

• Ability to produce P&IDs, mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams

• Strong fundamentals across thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, load calculations, fluid flow, etc.

• Experience managing fabricators, vendors, or EPCs through design and commissioning phases of project development

Project Scale & Complexity

• Experience with projects in the $1M-$100M CAPEX range

• Work on core teams of 3-15 people where you owned significant design and project aspects

• Projects with 1-3 year planning and deployment timelines

• Design-through-start-up experience with first-of-a-kind, one-off, or customized systems

Relevant Experience (Highly Valued)

• Equipment exposed to harsh environmental conditions (desert, high UV, temperature extremes)

• Managing diurnal temperature swings, expansion/contraction challenges

• Large equipment with dimensional tolerance considerations

• Passively efficient design approaches

• Water-saving and heating/cooling system design

The Right Personality

• Full of energy and extremely hands-on; a person who leaves no stone unturned, no details overlooked

• Upbeat with a "let's solve it" attitude

• Excited by significant responsibility and ownership

• Demonstrated leadership ability (on the job, in sports, or elsewhere)
