Anvil Capture Systems is a Boston, MA-based startup commercializing novel carbon dioxide removal technology that is uniquely provable, affordable, scalable, and safe, making Anvil a highly competitive entrant in the sector. Anvil is headquartered in Greentown Labs, the largest climate tech incubator in the world.


Reporting directly to Anvil’s CEO, the Head of Finance & Operations will be a critical member of Anvil’s growing team. This role oversees finance, HR, and operational functions, ensuring strong financial stewardship, compliant operations, and efficient internal systems as the company scales.


This is a full-time role based in Boston (Somerville), MA. Competitive compensation packages will be offered to top-tier candidates.


Key Responsibilities

• Lead all finance functions, including financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close.

• Create, manage, and track budgets for company projects and grant-funded programs.

• Oversee accounting systems, financial reporting, and internal controls.

• Manage contracts, legal coordination, compliance requirements, and reporting obligations.

• Lead HR functions including recruiting, contracting, onboarding, and offboarding.

• Oversee payroll, benefits administration, and HR policies and processes.

• Prepare financial and operational presentations and reports for leadership, investors, partners, and other stakeholders.

• Provide oversight of internal systems supporting finance, HR, and operations.

• Manage company administrative operations, including IT, as well as office and lab space administration.

• Support strategic planning, operational scaling, and cross-functional initiatives as the company grows.


Required Skills and Experience

• 7+ years of experience in finance, operations, or general management roles.

• Demonstrated experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close processes.

• Experience managing contracts, compliance, and grant or project-based reporting.

• Experience overseeing HR functions and recruiting in a growing organization.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and reporting.

• Comfort operating in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving needs.


Bonus Skills and Experience

• Experience working at a startup or in the climate or clean technology sector.

• Experience managing grant-funded or nonprofit-adjacent programs.

• Familiarity with accounting systems, ERP platforms, and HRIS tools.

• Experience supporting board, investor, or executive-level reporting.
