Summary Of Role & Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a Junior Consultant to join our Climate & Nature business line. You will be primarily working for the Decarbonisation and Energy Transition service line, but will also support the Climate Risk & Resilience service line. There will also be opportunities to work in Green House gas accounting and Science Based Targets setting.

Decarbonisation and Energy Transition

The Decarbonisation and Energy Transition service line delivers unique projects that require quick, innovative and practical solutions.

The work is divided into three pillars: industrial decarbonisation, technical due diligence and mandatory energy reporting.

You will be responsible for supporting your peers in delivering project in the three aforementioned areas by developing and deploying innovative solutions that improve energy efficiency and process optimisation without compromising industrial productivity and competitiveness, assess the technical viability of renewable assets by evaluating their scalability, performance, reliability and technology maturity in the context or investments and acquisitions, deliver energy audits and assessing energy consumption aiming at identifying ways for businesses to reduce energy and operate more efficiently.

You will also be required to occasionally visit site to gain first hand insight into operations, infrastructure and asset conditions that cannot be fully understood through documents or remote assess. Most of the travel will be in the UK but oversea travel may also be required. You will join a small but very versatile team that will be sharing insights, experiences and best practices to allow you to grow in your role and build confidence in a variety industrial processes, whilst contributing effectively to team and business goals.

Climate Risk & Resilience

The Climate Risk and Resilience service line delivers a number of projects aiming at understanding, managing, and reducing the impacts of climate related hazards on communities, ecosystems, and economies, while enhancing their ability to adapt and thrive in the face of climate change. You will be responsible for supporting the team members with client engagements via effective identification and assessment of climate-related risks, opportunities and impacts to global businesses.

You will join a dedicated team that serves clients including retail, agriculture, finance, transport & logistics, all of whom require support to engage key stakeholders on the topic of climate change.

Our team actively supports clients to enhance their business and value chain resilience to climate risk and leveraging opportunities arising from the transition to a low carbon economy. We aim to support them to facilitate future business growth and implement positive sustainable practices under changing climate conditions and a moving regulatory landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing data analysis utilising in-house and 3rd party software solutions.
  • Conducting desktop research to inform client deliverables and support data analyses.
  • Contribute to technical due diligence studies for energy related assets and systems.
  • Interpreting outputs of analyses to deliver meaningful, impact-focused conclusions relevant to the client.
  • Drafting of client reports and presentations that convey key messages and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Comply with the business Health & Safety policy and demonstrate best practice through project delivery.
  • Supporting business development opportunities for new and existing client relationships.
  • Collaborating with our global network of Climate & Nature practitioners to deliver projects and support development of new and innovative technical solutions.
  • Independently network to develop relationships across our other capability areas.

Key Requirements, Skills Knowledge & Expertise

  • A degree/relevant qualification in a climate and nature related field. An engineering degree would be preferable.
  • A passion for sustainability and an interest in being at the forefront of sustainability and decarbonisation.
  • Good understanding of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics, including power and thermal generation from multiple fuels
  • An understanding of global climate science, scenarios and relevant climate data.
  • Proficiency with data analysis software, such as Excel, PowerBI and EnergyPro.
  • Curious, open minded and enthusiastic.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills, with the ability to respond positively to the fast-paced and dynamic working environment that is consultancy.
  • Proactive with the ability to use initiative.
  • Professional, approachable and supportive to clients and colleagues alike.
  • Experience or wishing to develop capability in the following areas:
    • Data analysis and reporting
    • Industrial processes & optimisation
    • Renewable energy technologies
    • Decarbonisation solutions
    • Sustainable finance
    • Enterprise risk management
    • Green Gas House accounting
    • Science Based Targets setting
Whilst We Are Not Expecting Candidate To Have Extensive Experience, Knowledge Of And Proficiency In One Or More Of The Following Would Be Beneficial

  • Work experience in a related position or in a role with relevant transferrable skills.
  • Experience in managing data and conducting robust analysis to deliver meaningful outputs.
  • Placement in process industries, site surveys and energy auditing.
  • Familiarity with approaches to assessing physical climate risk, and identifying risks and opportunities arising from the transition to a low carbon economy.
  • Working knowledge of sustainability topics, key ESG and Energy Efficiency standards and frameworks and latest developments in the ESG practices, decarbonisation and renewable energy incentives and sustainable finance.
