The Energy Solutions team is in the privileged position to play a meaningful role in what is the biggest challenge of our generation - climate change. About the role:
The ES Technology Manager is responsible for managing a team tasked with developing, implementing and supporting the operation of technologies required to deliver the Ampol Group’s Energy Solutions strategy, ensuring customer-focused and reliable solutions. This role leverages eMobility and renewable energy industry subject matter expertise to collaborate with the Energy Solutions business units to develop the right solutions for Ampol and our customers. Additionally, this team supports system troubleshooting and operations as required from time to time.
To be successful in the Energy Solutions team you will demonstrate technological expertise in delivery of EV charging solutions as well as knowledge of renewable energy infrastructure technologies to solve emerging challenges across all aspects of Energy Solutions operations. You will bring knowledge, offer advice and direction, and promote collaboration within your team. You thrive when faced with ambiguity and aspire to greater challenges within your role.
You’ll take us further by:
- Developing and implementing the Energy Solutions technology strategy focusing on operational reliability and connectivity.
- Managing a team responsible for designing, delivering and supporting operational systems for Energy Solutions assets such as EV chargers, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar systems including Charge Point Management Systems, EVSE LMS & Firmware, Web/Mobile Interfaces, SCADA and other operational systems.
- Collaborating with the Energy Solutions CX & Product and Asset Operations Teams to define and design market leading ES technology solutions.
- Developing and maintaining strong internal relationships across Energy Solutions and the Ampol TDD (Technology, Digital and Data) and manage ES Technology systems vendor relationships and contracts.
- Developing, maintaining and documenting processes for ES Technology operations, driving reliability and uptime ensuring seamless integration between OT and IT interfaces.
- Working with the Energy Value Chain teams (Technical SMEs, Asset Operations and Asset Deployment) to implement technology solutions, processes and procedures that are best in class.
- Collaborating with the Analytics and Insights team to maintain reporting and dashboards on operational systems and services.
- Supporting the ES Technology team in ensuring SME knowledge of emerging technologies likely to drive future business strategy including Plug & Charge, V2X (Bidirectional power), Wireless charging, connected and autonomous vehicles, is being maintained.
- Leading technical due diligence on relevant investment opportunities as required.
We’d love it if you have:
- Demonstrated experience managing teams and in delivering connectivity, software & platform solutions within EV charging/renewables.
- Track record of accountability operating high reliability EV charging solutions
- Experience utilising technical expertise to create and deliver technology strategies which solve complex problems in the EV industry
- Experience in managing high performing teams and capital projects
- The ability to engage and collaborate with external stakeholders such as vendors, business owners, customers, government, and internal stakeholders to achieve the strategic goals of the organisation
- The ability to effectively communicate and transform complex problems into simple concepts to explain to senior leaders’ recommendations and trade-offs of use of technology
- Expertise in industry specific protocols such as Open Charge Point Protocol, Open Charge Point Interface and Open Smart Charging Protocols
- Expertise in CCS Protocols (ISO15118-20) and CHAdeMO (3.0) protocols
Nice to have:
- Experience leveraging adjacent value add opportunity associated with EV charging and integration of eMobility into wider business strategy.
- Experience in developing and implementing various payment methods from contactless, fuel cards as well as digital solutions (Mobile Apps)
- Experience with a variety of energy solutions and assets (e.g. Battery, Solar, VPP, Dynamic Energy Management)
- Experience in delivering and supporting operational systems for EV charging, BESS and solar systems
