Amperesand Technical Compliance Product Manager

Base pay range: 175,000.00 / yr - $230,000.00 / yr

Amperesand is disrupting industrial power with the first commercialized Solid State Transformer systems. Solid State Transformers enable advanced features to unlock solutions for data centers, EV charging, renewables, microgrids, and industrial installations. We are looking for a mission-driven team member who can lead from the front, setting the strategy that makes regulatory adherence a competitive advantage.

Job Overview

As Technical Product Compliance Manager, you will build and lead the compliance engineering function at Amperesand, ensuring our products meet global regulatory requirements with favorable interpretations and minimal friction. Youll own the strategic direction for product compliance, partner with engineering and product leadership to define certification pathways early in development, and engage directly with NRTLs (e.g., TUV, UL, CSA) and global authorities to shape testing outcomes and timelines.

You will manage and grow a high-performance compliance engineering team, mentor technical staff, and develop scalable systems to ensure consistent success across regulatory domains. This leadership role requires technical depth, organizational influence, and proactive engagement with evolving standards such as UL 1741-SB, IEC 60730, and IEEE 1547.1. The mission is to ensure Amperesand is always one step aheadnever waiting for compliance, but defining it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Compliance Strategy: Define and execute Amperesands certification and compliance roadmap across North American and international markets. Drive early-phase engagement with product and engineering teams to identify regulatory requirements in concept stage.
  • Team Leadership: Build, manage, and mentor a team of compliance engineers to deliver high-integrity documentation, lab coordination, and standard interpretation throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Regulatory Interpretation & Influence: Serve as the internal authority on standards (e.g., UL 1741-SB, IEEE 1547.1, IEC 60730, UL 1998). Influence how those standards are applied to our technology and advocate for interpretations that support innovation while preserving safety.
  • Engagement with NRTLs: Own relationships with certifying bodies (TUV, UL, CSA, Intertek); lead negotiations on test requirements, coordinate test campaigns, and influence outcomes through proactive preparation and technical dialogue.
  • Compliance Infrastructure: Create and own internal tools and processes for compliance tracking, certification documentation, product labeling, and pre-compliance validation. Drive automation where possible.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with Product Management, Safety Engineering, Firmware, and Power Systems to embed compliance across product definition, not bolted on later.
  • Global Perspective: Prepare products for international certification including CE, UKCA, RoHS, and other country-specific requirements. Lead alignment on modular design reuse and regulatory harmonization.
  • Standards Monitoring: Continuously monitor updates to key grid codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations. Lead internal readiness reviews and communicate impact.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 8+ years in compliance, safety engineering, or regulatory affairs within power electronics, energy systems, or electromechanical product development. 2+ years in a leadership/management role.
  • Standards Mastery: Expert knowledge of UL 1741-SB, IEEE 1547.1, IEC 60730; familiarity with UL 1998, UL 508A, NEC 705/710/480/490, and IEC 61850.
  • Test Lab Authority: Demonstrated leadership in certification test preparation and execution. Experience negotiating technical positions with NRTLs and test agencies.
  • System-Level Perspective: Ability to connect regulatory needs with product architecture, firmware behavior, and field safety constraints. Strong understanding of inverter and PCS system design.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven success influencing technical, commercial, and operational stakeholders at a senior level.
  • Process Builder: Experience designing and deploying scalable compliance systems across multiple products or platforms.

Technical Skills

  • Compliance Architecture: Structure modular certification pathways across hardware/software interfaces.
  • Certification Planning: Build phased certification plans aligned to NPI gates and market entry deadlines.
  • Design Reviews & Risk Analysis: Lead compliance reviews alongside FMEA, safety analysis, and DFx discussions.
  • Digital Tools: Familiarity with regulatory management systems, document control platforms, and engineering toolchains.

Bonus Exposures Energy Industry Focus

  • Energy Sector Knowledge: Experience on projects related to smart grids, renewable energy, or energy management platforms is a plus.
