We're looking for a hands-on Organics R&D Intern to support testing and development of a biochar pilot system processing MSW, organics, and biomass. This is a field + lab role focused on running tests, collecting high-quality data, and helping develop new methods for handling variable waste streams. This internship will begin June 1st, 2026, and conclude August 21st, 2026.
You'll work directly with engineers and operators on real hardware, real materials, and real problems.

What You'll Do
Test Execution & Operations
- Assist in executing test plans on high-temperature biochar systems
- Support system startups, shutdowns, and operations under supervision
- Prepare, stage, and feed MSW, organics, biomass, and pyrolysis materials
- Maintain a clean, organized pilot and lab environment
- Present test results clearly to internal stakeholders
- Develop and prototype new test methods and sampling procedures
- Collect, label, and track samples and material properties
- Monitor variability in feedstocks and its impact on performance
- Build simple test fixtures and sampling tools as needed
- Develop and follow standardized procedures for repeatability
- Record operational data and observations during test runs
- Maintain accurate logs of conditions, materials, and outcomes
- Organize and analyze data using Excel
- Identify and flag anomalies or inconsistencies
- Assist with equipment maintenance, cleaning, and prep
- Support troubleshooting through detailed observation and data
- Operate with a strict safety-first mindset around waste streams and high-temperature systems
Required
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or related field
- Comfortable working in a hands-on industrial environment (not just a desk role)
- Strong attention to detail in data collection and documentation
- Willingness to work with MSW, organics, and variable waste materials
- Ability to follow procedures consistently and safely
- Basic proficiency in CAD tools
- Familiarity with technical research and reading scientific literature
- Strong safety-first mindset
- Ability to travel
- Work on real pilot-scale systems and real waste streams
- Gain hands-on experience in climate tech and industrial R&D
- High ownership and exposure in a fast-moving startup environment
