Battery Management Systems Engineer
Job Description
Job Summary:
The Battery Management Systems (BMS) Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of BMS for advanced energy storage applications. This role involves ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of lithium-ion battery packs through hardware, software, and system-level controls. The BMS Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams in electrical, mechanical, and software engineering to deliver high-performance battery systems for applications such as electric vehicles (EVs), stationary energy storage systems, and industrial power solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the design, development, and validation of BMS hardware components, including sensing systems, protection circuits, power electronics, and communication interfaces.
- Works as the technical interface for customer projects and their applications.
- Listen to the voice of the customer and translate into system requirements.
- Drives a compliance matrix of customer requirements to an agreed baseline.
- Leads the development of sub-system requirements, architecture, and system concept sizing.
- Maintains changes to requirements, and their impact analysis, and helps track scope creep.
- Maintains sub-system requirements throughout the product life cycle.
- Identifies and drives cross-functional interface evaluations and any constraints.
- Implement system optimization with design for excellence evaluation.
- Help to troubleshooting failed battery packs, identifying corrective actions, implementing and testing corrective actions.
- Help to support business development by evaluating new opportunities.
- Support key functional engineering groups Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software, Battery Management Systems BMS.
- Support functional safety, security, and reliability engineering analysis.
- Help support decomposition of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) into sub-system DFMEA and Process Failure Mode and Effects (PFMEA).
- Help develop system inspection requirements for end-of-line testing, from a quality control plan.
- Adhere to federal and state regulations.
- Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
- Predictable and reliable attendance.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering or equivalent degree.
- Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience in systems engineering discipline on battery packs or battery management system projects.
- Hands-on experience with high and low-voltage power and communication systems.
- Previous experience in architecture modeling.
- Proficient in Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Experience generating Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Process Failure Mode and Effects (PFMEA), Design for Manufacturing (DFM)/Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R).
- Experience using a formal requirement management tool.
- Ability to organize and plan effectively with project teams.

- Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed (~10% travel on average).
