Structural Engineer – Amsterdam, Netherlands


About the Company



We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join a fast-growing climate technology initiative based in Amsterdam. This role is central to the mechanical design and validation of steel structures used in modular systems that capture carbon dioxide directly from ambient air. These systems are deployed across various industries to support circular carbon use and scalable carbon removal.



About the Role



As a Structural Engineer, you will contribute to the development of platforms, frames, ladders, and other steel components that form the backbone of these innovative environmental technologies. You’ll work closely with mechanical designers, manufacturing teams, and sustainability experts in a collaborative and purpose-driven environment.



Responsibilities



  • Designing steel structures such as platforms, ladders, and support frames.
  • Performing strength calculations and structural mechanics assessments.
  • Applying FEM analysis where needed (optional if highly experienced).
  • Creating detailed mechanical designs using Inventor.
  • Overseeing prototyping, testing, and collaboration with testing and quality assurance teams to validate design concepts and ensure compliance with specified requirements and standards.
  • Creating detailed design documentation while ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.



Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (HBO or WO) in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design within the construction or industrial sector.



Required Skills



  • Strong expertise in steel structures and strength calculations.
  • Proficient in Inventor; familiarity with FEM/FEA tools.
  • Expertise in designing complex, industrial equipment (low volume / high complexity).
  • Fluent in English and/or Dutch.
  • Comfortable working remotely with engineering teams in other countries than the Netherlands.

  • Experience in sustainability-focused projects
