Product Manager - Culture
Role: Product Manager – Culture
Team: Founders’ Office
Reports to: Founders
About Alt Carbon :
Alt Carbon is a deeptech science and data company, building agri-infrastructure for climate action. We aim to make South Asia a hub for Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) through technology pathways like Enhanced Rock Weathering and Biochar. We work with farmers and scientists across the Global South to turn underutilized land into carbon sinks.
Our flagship initiative, the Darjeeling Revival Project (DRP), is a first-of-its-kind effort to unite climate action with cultural and ecological restoration - by reviving degraded soils, restoring livelihoods, and rebuilding ecosystems. This year, we also launched the Bengal Renaissance Project (BRP), a large-scale biochar program that is building a network of biomass banks, pyrolysis, and gasification plants across Eastern India, with a mission to weave hope back into the lands of India.
Rooted in science, powered by community, and driven by the belief that revivals require ambition and audacious bets, our mission is to remove 5 million metric tons of CO₂ by 2030.
About the Role :
At Alt Carbon, we believe culture is not an HR function, it’s a product. It’s designed, measured, iterated, and owned with the same intent and rigor as anything we build.
As the Product Manager - Culture, you’ll sit at the intersection of People Operations and Strategy, building systems that make Alt Carbon a place where people do the best work of their lives. You’ll translate our values into scalable programs across hiring, onboarding, growth, and everyday interactions, crafting a culture that enables performance, belonging, and purpose.
You’ll work directly with the founders to shape the company’s most enduring competitive edge - its people and how they work together.
What You’ll Do :
Culture Design & Ownership
- Architect the overall “culture stack” - the systems, rituals, and norms that define how we collaborate, communicate, and grow.
- Build and continuously improve feedback, recognition, and engagement frameworks to sustain a high-performing and connected team.
- Partner with leadership to embed company values in all people processes and decisions.
People Operations & Experience
- Oversee onboarding and orientation to ensure new hires are integrated seamlessly into our mission and ways of working.
- Manage performance and feedback cycles, and help design development frameworks that enable growth and clarity.
- Work with finance and leadership on compensation structures, benefits, and people policies that reflect our evolving culture and scale.
- Ensure HR processes (contracts, compliance, documentation) are streamlined, compliant, and aligned with company values.
Engagement & Communication
- Run internal communication programs, town halls, and offsites to foster connection and alignment across teams.
- Monitor culture health through data - engagement surveys, sentiment checks, and retention metrics - and translate insights into action.
- Champion inclusivity, transparency, and psychological safety through everyday systems, processes, and storytelling.
What We’re Looking For :
- 5–8 years of experience in People Operations, HR, or Culture Strategy, preferably in a startup or fast-scaling environment.
- A product mindset toward culture - you design systems that are intentional, measurable, and iterative.
- Deep empathy and organizational awareness, with the ability to balance human needs and business priorities.
- Strong program management, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Comfort with ambiguity - you can build structure in evolving, fast-moving environments.
Why This Role Matters?
Culture is what happens when no one’s watching. The founding team has set the tone; now we’re looking for someone to own the system - designing and scaling the infrastructure that shapes how we hire, grow, and work together. This might just be the most important hire we make.
