About Alt Carbon:

Alt Carbon is a deeptech science and data company, building agri-infrastructure for climate action. We aim to make South Asia a hub for Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) through technology pathways like Enhanced Rock Weathering and Biochar. We work with farmers and scientists across the Global South to turn underutilized land into carbon sinks.

Our flagship initiative, the Darjeeling Revival Project (DRP), is a first-of-its-kind effort to unite climate action with cultural and ecological restoration - by reviving degraded soils, restoring livelihoods, and rebuilding ecosystems. This year, we also launched the Bengal Renaissance Project (BRP), a large-scale biochar program that is building a network of biomass banks, pyrolysis, and gasification plants across Eastern India, with a mission to weave hope back into the lands of India.

Rooted in science, powered by community, and driven by the belief that revivals require ambition and audacious bets, our mission is to remove 5 million metric tons of CO₂ by 2030.

About the team

Climate change is real. At Alt Carbon, we are building the infrastructure to remove 5 million tonnes of CO₂ by 2030.

Climate Studio is the creative engine behind that mission, translating soil science, carbon markets, factories, farmers, and field data into visual language that moves investors, partners, and communities.

We operate in 0–1 territory. We build fast. We iterate often. We care deeply about craft. This is not a classroom internship. It is a studio environment. You will work on real projects that ship.

About the role

We are looking for a hybrid illustration + design intern to join our design pod.

You will work within our defined visual language, high-detail, painterly, system-driven illustration style, and support projects across:

  • Website visuals
  • Campaign illustration systems
  • Social media and editorial assets
  • Pitch decks and investor narratives
  • Motion-ready assets
  • Print and environmental design

You will report to the Creative Director and work alongside designers, strategists, and scientists. This role requires craft precision and speed. We move quickly and execute at a high level.

What you will do

  • Execute high-detail, painterly illustrations within the in-house design system
  • Produce layered illustration files prepared for motion and web use (with guidance)
  • Support motion outputs (working with guidance on animation pipelines)
  • Create campaign and social creatives under tight timelines
  • Adapt visuals for decks, web, print, and environmental contexts
  • Context switch between multiple projects and leads
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback

You Will Thrive Here If

  • You are curious about science and how the world works
  • You are comfortable receiving daily feedback
  • You are not precious about your work
  • You ask questions early
  • You move fast, take ownership and are excited by ambiguity rather than paralysed by it
  • You want to build real-world work, not mock projects

This environment is fast and may overwhelm slower rhythms. We expect high-agency, high-output designers, and we support them with real creative opportunities on live projects.

What You Bring

  • A strong illustration portfolio (high craft, high detail)
  • Comfort with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Working knowledge of Figma
  • Interest in motion workflows (After Effects / similar)
  • Curiosity about AI tools and AI-enabled creative workflows
  • Growth mindset
