Strategic Communications and Outreach Consultant
ALSO Space is hiring Strategic Communications and Outreach Consultants to join our passionate, diverse and international team. The role involves communication, outreach, user engagement, strategic assignments, and the coordination of client projects related to Earth Observation, geospatial data, climate action, environmental monitoring, disaster risk reduction, emergency response, security and defence, , and European research and innovation projects.
The successful candidate will turn technical, scientific, policy, and strategic information into clear, accurate, and accessible outputs for institutional clients, public sector stakeholders, user communities, and security and defence actors. This is a consulting role which combines content creation, analytical writing, project management, stakeholder engagement, event support, and contributions to strategic reports, communication plans, user uptake strategies, Horizon Europe project activities, and other client-facing deliverables.
We are looking for someone proactive, organised, intellectually curious, and comfortable working in an information-driven environment. The ideal candidate will be able to manage several tasks in parallel, coordinate internal and external contributors as well as timelines, work with input from technical experts, and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines. The role is intended for someone who can work with a significant degree of autonomy and take ownership of client-facing tasks and workstreams.
Responsibilities:
- Develop or coordinate the development of communication materials, including articles, social media content, website copy, presentations, newsletters, briefings, and visual.
- Translate complex scientific, technical, policy, or geospatial information into clear language for non-expert, stakeholder, and institutional audiences.
- Prepare and contribute to strategic reports, communication plans, user uptake strategies, stakeholder analyses, use cases, briefings, presentations, deliverables, and other client-facing outputs.
- Coordinate communication, outreach, and user engagement workstreams, including planning, task allocation, contributor follow-up, deadline tracking, quality control, workshops, webinars, stakeholder meetings, and delivery.
- Support project management activities across client assignments, including meeting preparation, reporting inputs, internal coordination, and follow-up with partners, experts, and subcontractors.
- Contribute to projects, including Horizon Europe assignments, by supporting communication, dissemination, exploitation, stakeholder engagement, user uptake, events, reporting, and deliverable preparation.
- Support proposal preparation and business development activities when relevant, including research, drafting, formatting, coordinating, quality control, and contribution to technical offers.
Skills and qualifications:
- Relevant university degree, for example in communication, international relations, public policy, environmental studies, geography, remote sensing, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of directly relevant experience in communication, consulting, science communication, policy communication, project coordination, user engagement, European projects, or a related role, preferably within a project-based, institutional, consulting, research, or public-sector environment.
- Experience working on EU-funded, institutional, public-sector, research, innovation, or technical projects. Experience in Horizon Europe projects will be considered a strong asset.
- Experience preparing, drafting or contributing to reports, strategies, presentations, briefings, communication plans, dissemination and exploitation plans, user uptake plans, deliverables, or other client-facing outputs.
- Demonstrated project management or project coordination experience, including the ability to manage deadlines, contributors, client expectations, reporting inputs, and several parallel workstreams.
- Experience supporting events, workshops, webinars, stakeholder meetings, consultations, or user engagement activities.
- Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills, with the ability to structure information clearly and adapt content to different audiences.
- Interest in Earth Observation, geospatial data, security and defence, disaster risk reduction, emergency management, climate action, environmental monitoring, European policy, or public sector innovation.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and explain technical, scientific, policy, or data-driven content, including on unfamiliar topics with input from technical experts.
- Excellent organisational skills, with strong attention to detail, a focus on quality and client satisfaction, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Experience working directly with clients, partners, experts, consortia, or stakeholders.
- Full professional fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of other European languages, particularly French, Spanish, Italian, or Portuguese, will be considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard workplace tools. Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, CMS platforms such as WordPress or Drupal, survey tools, and project management tools, would be an additional asset.
