Energy & Sustainability Programme Consultant

Reports to: Head of Capital Planning & Delivery

Contract: 2 years

Role Purpose

The organisation is seeking an experienced Energy & Sustainability Programme Consultant to lead the development and delivery of its Energy, Sustainability and Decarbonisation Strategy.

The successful candidate will provide strategic, technical and project management expertise to deliver energy efficiency, carbon reduction and sustainability initiatives, aligned with relevant public sector climate and energy targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and update the organisation’s Energy & Sustainability Strategy and establish an accurate energy and carbon baseline.
  • Develop a practical, phased decarbonisation roadmap, including CAPEX/OPEX requirements.
  • Identify, assess and prioritise energy, carbon and sustainability projects.
  • Develop business cases and identify suitable funding and grant opportunities.
  • Lead the delivery of approved projects, coordinating contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage project risks while minimising disruption to ongoing operations.
  • Establish performance measures to monitor energy and carbon reductions.
  • Provide regular progress, financial and performance reporting to senior management.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering energy, sustainability or decarbonisation projects within a complex, operational organisation.
  • Experience developing sustainability strategies and costed implementation plans.
  • Strong knowledge of energy efficiency, carbon reduction and public sector funding opportunities.
  • Experience managing large-scale infrastructure or energy programmes.
  • Strong project management, financial modelling and stakeholder management skills.
