3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:


Low Carbon Built Environment (LCBE) is one of the five verticals that enables the decarbonisation and climate resilience of India's built environment through energy building codes, low carbon materials, performance benchmarking and disclosure. Sustainable Cooling and Cold Chain (SCCC) is another key vertical that advances sustainable space cooling and cold-chain for thermal comfort and food security, respectively. The activities of both the verticals are intertwined, especially on matters that impact the requirements for space cooling and energy consumption therefrom. Thus, the role is also designed to manage the distinct activities of LCBE, SCCC (space cooling or HVAC related) and their intersection. Depending on the candidate’s background and experience, the role can be expanded to encompass the full set of activities under the SCCC vertical (space cooling and refrigeration both).


The Deputy Director / Director – LCBE & SCCC will report to the Senior Director – Programs and Research and will be responsible for leading the verticals’ strategy in alignment with AEEE’s mission and organisational priorities. The role includes program design and delivery, policy and domain research and analysis, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communications, while leading a cohesive team of 15–20 high-performing professionals.


The incumbent will work collaboratively with key public and private sector stakeholders through systematic networking and partnerships, adopting a solutions-oriented and problem-solving approach.

Key Job Responsibilities:


A. Program Strategy and Innovation:

(1) Lead AEEE’s LCBE and SCCC verticals, setting a strong vision aligned with India's decarbonization and thermal comfort goals;

(2) Develop and periodically update the strategy by analysing the sector context, identifying specific issues and opportunities, and defining targeted intervention measures where AEEE has the ability to create or catalyse greater impact;

(3) Develop annual portfolio plans capturing potential activities corresponding to strategic priorities;

(4) Develop high-impact programs, policy recommendations, partnerships, financing models, and technology deployment strategies;

(5) Champion solutions that accelerate decarbonization, sustainable cooling access, heat adaptation, and energy efficiency.


B. Fundraising:

(1) Identify and create impactful opportunities; conceive and secure programmatic funding from government/private sector/philanthropies;

(2) Develop concept notes and proposals to respond to specific RFPs/Tenders/Funding calls, in collaboration with internal departments, as necessary;

(3) Support institutional fund-raising events that may be led by other departments or verticals.


C. Policy and Research Excellence:

(1) Provide thought leadership in data-backed and evidence-based policies and program design;

(2) Identify and lead areas of new knowledge and insights creation through research;

(3) Lead execution of program and project activities falling under the verticals;

(4) Monitor the progress and achievement of outcomes and impact directly created, enabled and catalyzed through program activities.


D. Partnership and Advocacy:

(1) Build strong collaborations with government, funders, AEEE members, industry, academia, and civil society organizations; represent AEEE as a key spokesperson;

(2) Represent AEEE at allied forums and platforms to shape sector/program specific agenda and discourse;

(3) Contribute to institutional activities such as hosting summits, conferences;

(4) Collaborate with the larger network to leverage expertise and provide sector updates.


E. Team Management:

(1) Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 15–20 high-performing professionals, including completing performance goal setting, reviews, and assessments, and identify gaps and development needs for all direct reports;

(2) Maintain organisational culture and discipline amongst direct reportees.


4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in engineering, public policy, architecture, building science, management, or related fields. Ph.D. in a relevant field is preferred.


Experience:

(1) Minimum 15 years of relevant experience (for Deputy Director), or 18 years of relevant experience (for Director) in the built environment, energy efficiency, HVAC, or cooling, of which minimum 10 years of leadership and managerial experience, and 3 years of fundraising experience is desirable.;

(2) International experience of having worked on building decarbonization or sustainable cooling and refrigeration policies is highly desirable.

(3) Expertise in policy, technology, and financing strategies for sustainable built environments.


Skills and Competencies:

(1) Strong executive presence with a proven network among funders, partners, and industry leaders.;

(2) Ability to hold important and difficult discussions with government, funders, CXOs in the private sector, and other leaders in peer organisations;

(3) Demonstrated success in conceptualizing initiatives, securing funding, and scaling programs;

(4) Exceptional team leadership, mentoring, and management skills;

(5) Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities;

(6) Strong alignment with AEEE’s mission, values (RISE: Respect, Integrity, Synergy, Excellence).


5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:


The gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.
