We are seeking a skilled Journeyperson Electrician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in both industrial and commercial electrical work, including proficiency in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical codes and safety standards, as well as the ability to read blueprints and schematics. The Journeyperson Electrician will work on various construction sites and renovation projects, ensuring that all electrical installations meet the highest quality standards.
Electrical Duties
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in commercial and industrial settings
- Troubleshoot electrical issues using tools such as ohmmeters and power tools
- Work with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for automation tasks
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine layout and installation procedures
- Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local regulations
- Perform low voltage and high voltage wiring tasks as required
- Collaborate with other tradespeople on construction sites to complete projects efficiently
- Conduct regular inspections of electrical systems to identify potential hazards or maintenance needs
- Provide maintenance person services as needed during renovation projects
Solar Duties
- Install solar panels, inverters, and racking systems according to design plans and code requirements.
- Mount and wire combiner boxes, disconnects, and junction boxes.
- Run conduit, pull wire, and terminate conductors for solar arrays.
- Connect photovoltaic (PV) systems to main service panels and subpanels.
- Interpret solar electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and schematics.
- Ensure compliance with NEC (National Electrical Code), state, and local electrical codes.
- Size and install overcurrent protection devices (breakers, fuses) for solar circuits.
- Verify proper grounding and bonding of solar systems.
- Install and test rapid shutdown systems.
- Perform continuity, insulation resistance, and voltage/current tests on solar circuits.
- Commission PV systems by verifying correct polarity, voltage, and current output.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults in panels, inverters, or wiring.
- Perform system performance checks to ensure proper operation.
- Diagnose and repair inverter faults, wiring issues, and monitoring failures.
- Replace defective modules, inverters, or BOS (Balance of System) components.
- Maintain and update system monitoring equipment.
- Enforce jobsite electrical and solar safety standards, including lockout/tagout and PPE use.
- Train and oversee apprentices on solar-related tasks.
- Document installations and service work for compliance and warranty.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an electrician in both industrial and commercial settings
- Proven experience with solar systems
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including low voltage and high voltage applications
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is a plus
- Proficient in using hand tools and power tools relevant to the trade
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documents accurately
- Experience working on construction sites with a focus on safety protocols
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) is essential
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Frame carpentry or maintenance person experience is an advantage
