Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated, curious and detail-oriented Climate and Environment Research Intern to support research and analysis across climate change, environmental sustainability and related policy and development issues.

The intern will work closely with the research team to conduct desk research, review academic and policy literature, gather and analyze relevant data, monitor emerging environmental trends and contribute to research reports, briefs, presentations and other knowledge products.

This internship is an opportunity for a final-year student or recent graduate interested in climate change, environmental science, sustainability, development, policy or related fields to gain practical research experience and contribute to evidence-based work addressing environmental challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct desk research on climate change, environmental sustainability, climate policy and related topics.
  • Review and synthesize academic literature, policy documents, research papers, industry reports, institutional publications and credible datasets.
  • Collect, organize and analyze qualitative and quantitative environmental and climate-related data.
  • Research and monitor emerging climate and environmental trends, policies, initiatives and developments at local and international levels.
  • Support the preparation of research papers, reports, policy briefs, presentations, summaries and other knowledge products.
  • Assist with data visualization, charts, tables and other research outputs.
  • Contribute to research across areas such as climate adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity, renewable energy, environmental governance, sustainable development, resource management and environmental resilience.
  • Identify relevant research, case studies, initiatives and approaches that may inform ongoing work.
  • Support interviews, surveys, consultations or other forms of stakeholder research where required.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of research sources, datasets, references and findings.
  • Assist in comparing existing approaches, identifying gaps and synthesizing findings from multiple sources.
  • Support the team with other research, analytical and documentation activities as required.


Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Climate Studies, Sustainability, Geography, Development Studies, Public Policy or a related discipline.
  • Strong research, analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to independently find, evaluate, compare and synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to distinguish reliable evidence from unsupported or conflicting information.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, particularly Word/Docs and Excel/Sheets.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently, manage research tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and explore unfamiliar topics.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with climate change, environmental sustainability or environmental policy issues.
  • Previous experience with academic, policy, or independent research.
  • Experience conducting literature reviews or preparing research reports.
  • Basic knowledge of data analysis or data visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with research databases, statistical sources or publicly available environmental datasets.
  • Familiarity with GIS, geospatial data or mapping tools is an advantage.
  • Understanding of international climate frameworks and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a plus.
  • Experience working with spreadsheets, data, research databases or analytical tools is desirable.
