Sr. Automation Engineer
Job Description
Overview
Agnitron is seeking a highly skilled, experienced, technically driven Sr. Automation Engineer to lead the development, procurement, and integration of advanced semiconductor processing systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation systems, robotics, and manufacturing processes. This role bridges mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines—ideal for someone who thrives in R&D environments. Along with lead the integration of controls and automation in Agnitron’s systems, the Sr. Automation Engineer will assist in wiring and maintaining industrial automation systems, support real-time diagnostics, and collaborate closely with engineers to implement and refine custom control solutions for one-of-a-kind tools used in semiconductor research and manufacturing.
The combination of world class technology and yearly bonus potential make this an excellent opportunity for an experienced Automation Engineer to create the technology of the future!
High-Level Design and Architecture
- Lead the design and development of complex control system architectures for new and existing MOCVD and RTA equipment, ensuring scalability, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Specify and select new hardware and software components, including advanced PLCs, HMI systems, industrial PCs, and motion control systems, based on project requirements and performance goals.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN), incorporating best practices for manufacturability, safety, and serviceability.
- Create and manage documentation for new automation systems, including functional design specifications (FDS), software design specifications (SDS), and validation protocols.
Software and Systems Integration
- Architect and implement software solutions in C# and PLC programming languages (e.g., Structured Text, Ladder Logic) to control and monitor semiconductor processing equipment.
- Develop advanced algorithms for process control, data acquisition, and real-time diagnostics, leveraging object-oriented design principles.
- Integrate and configure complex industrial networking protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFINET, and OPC UA to establish high-speed, reliable communication between devices.
Project Leadership and Collaboration
- Act as the primary technical lead for automation projects, managing timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables to ensure successful completion.
- Collaborate directly with cross-functional teams—including mechanical, process, and materials engineers—to define system requirements and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for automation and control systems during customer consultations and field service operations.
- Analyze system performance data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and drive the refinement of existing control solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Automation Engineering or Controls Engineering preferred
