Our team supports owners and investors on utility-scale and distributed solar, BESS, and wind projects from development through construction and commissioning, and into operations. We lead project management, development workstreams, engineering review, procurement, permitting compliance, and construction oversight. We also support operating assets with technical review and solutions to deliver expected performance. We are a small team working on exciting projects — and we work directly and collaboratively with our clients.
The Role
We are hiring a Project Director to take end-to-end ownership of client projects. You will be the project and commercial point of contact for your engagements: leading projects as an owner's representative from late-stage development through engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning, directing multidisciplinary design teams, and keeping scope, schedule, and budget aligned with the project objectives, technical requirements, and commercial agreements.
The position carries a significant degree of autonomy. You will work closely with our principals and principal engineers and will hold direct responsibility for client relationships. Experience with solar and BESS is required; experience with wind is a plus.
What You'll Do
Project Leadership
· Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects, coordinating between the owner, EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, utilities, landowners, and third-party consultants.
· Lead projects at various stages of development from concept up to and including construction and operation.
· Coordinate and manage requests for proposals from contractors and equipment suppliers.
· Lead and support negotiations of commercial agreements.
· Manage development workstreams and address challenges with actionable solutions.
· Run project meetings, question logs, and stakeholder communications, and drive open items to resolution.
Technical Review
· Evaluate project feasibility including establishing and reviewing site criteria.
· Define technical requirements to achieve project goals and owner objectives.
· Review engineering packages — civil, structural, and electrical — for alignment with project requirements and agreements.
· Review site condition documents — ALTA surveys, geotechnical, hydrology, and corrosion reports — and confirm designs account for site characteristics.
· Evaluate project schedules and capital cost estimates for alignment with commercial agreements, and build the business case for scope changes and capital expenditures.
· Support commissioning, performance testing, and turnover to operations, including punch list closeout and warranty setup.
Reporting and Client Delivery
· Produce regular reports on project progress and key milestones.
· Present findings and recommendations directly to client stakeholders in a clear and actionable format.
What You Bring
Required
· Eight to twelve years of experience in renewable energy, with meaningful time leading utility-scale or distributed renewable energy projects through engineering, construction, and commissioning as an owner, EPC, or owner's engineer.
· Working command of project execution: EPC contracting, design review, procurement, construction sequencing, and commissioning, including the ability to distinguish contractor reporting from actual field progress.
· Understanding of solar plant performance: inverters, trackers, modules, availability and performance ratio, and energy loss diagnostics, including the ability to distinguish data quality issues from genuine plant performance issues.
· Engineering degree — civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical — or equivalent technical background.
· Familiarity with project agreements — PPAs, leases, interconnection agreements, EPC contracts — and comfort tracking obligations and deadlines across multiple projects.
· Strong analytical skills; fluent in Excel and comfortable working with project schedules, budgets, and technical drawings.
· Strong written communication skills; reporting produced in this role is delivered directly to institutional owners, investors, and lenders.
· Able to work independently in a remote, client-facing environment and manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
· Legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada, and able to travel to project sites.
Preferred
· Wind project experience.
· PE license or PMP certification.
· Experience supporting an institutional owner and project developers.
· Environmental compliance experience (SWPPP, SPCC, waste management, wildlife and habitat plans).
· Familiarity with project controls and scheduling tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, or similar.
Location and Travel
This role is remote within the United States or Canada. Expect roughly 20–30% travel for site visits and occasional client meetings. Proximity to a major airport is helpful.
