Key Responsibilities

1.System Design & Hydronic Engineering

  • Carry out room-by-room heat loss calculations for residential and commercial projects in the UK.
  • Select and size radiators, underfloor heating systems and other heat emitters.
  • Design and optimise low-temperature hydronic systems, including pipe sizing, flow rates and hydraulic balancing.
  • Prepare high-quality technical designs and project documentation in accordance with MCS requirements, including MIS 3005, and relevant UK Building Regulations, including Part L.
  • Support heat pump sizing and system optimisation to achieve efficient and reliable operation.
  • 2. Pre-Sales & After-Sales Technical Support
  • Provide in-depth technical support to B2B partners, contractors and installers on heat pump selection, system design, commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Support commissioning and configuration of heat pump control systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex on-site hydraulic and electrical issues.
  • Provide technical guidance on issues including abnormal flow rates, frost protection, hot-water cylinder integration, pumps, valves, sensors and smart-control integration.
  • Support installers during complex installations, commissioning and fault diagnosis where required.
  • 3. UK Standards, Regulations & Compliance
  • Monitor developments in UK regulations and industry requirements, including MCS, DNO requirements (G98/G99), the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) and relevant Building Regulations.
  • Ensure that company products, system designs and technical documentation meet applicable UK compliance requirements.
  • Liaise on technical matters with UK certification bodies, Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), industry organisations and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Support technical submissions, certification processes and product/system compliance activities.
  • 4. Technical Training & Partner Development
  • Develop technical manuals, installation guides, commissioning procedures, troubleshooting documentation and training materials.
  • Deliver technical training to installers, contractors, distributors and internal sales teams.
  • Improve installer capability and installation quality through structured technical training and practical guidance.
  • Help establish technical standards and best-practice procedures for the company's UK installer network.

Must-Haves

Industry Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the UK HVAC, heating or plumbing industry.
  • At least 2–3 years' hands-on experience in air-source heat pumps (ASHP) and/or ground-source heat pumps (GSHP), ideally in technical support, system design, commissioning or installation.

    • Qualifications

    Candidates should ideally hold relevant UK qualifications, including:

    • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Heating, or equivalent
    • Level 3 Heat Pump Installation & Maintenance qualification
    • Unvented Hot Water Cylinders (G3) qualification


    Technical Expertise

    • Strong working knowledge of UK MCS requirements and heat pump installation standards.
    • Experience using professional heat-loss calculation and system-design software such as OpenReno, Easy MCS, or equivalent platforms.
    • Strong understanding of low-temperature hydronic heating systems.
    • Good knowledge of inverter-driven heat pump operation and control strategies.
    • Ability to diagnose complex hydraulic, electrical and control-related system issues.

    Communication

    • Professional working proficiency in English.
    • Strong technical communication and presentation skills.
    • Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and practically to installers and non-technical stakeholders.


    Nice-to-Haves

    • F-Gas Category 1 certification.
    • Knowledge and practical experience of R290 refrigerant systems and associated safety requirements.
    • Hands-on experience with DNO applications, including G98/G99, and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) process.
    • Experience supporting MCS-certified heat pump projects from design through installation and commissioning.
    • Knowledge of smart heating controls, including weather compensation.
    • Familiarity with energy optimisation and smart-tariff integration, including systems designed to work with Octopus Energy dynamic tariffs.
    • Previous experience providing technical training to installers or developing an installer network.


    The Ideal Candidate

    You are an experienced UK heating or HVAC professional who understands both the engineering principles behind heat pump systems and the realities of installation on site.

    You will be comfortable moving between system design, technical troubleshooting, installer training, compliance and partner support. Most importantly, you will be able to translate technical knowledge into practical solutions that installers and customers can successfully implement.
