Job Description
Join AECOM in Wellington as a Sustainability and Resilience Consultant and make a tangible impact on New Zealand’s sustainability and climate resilience. We’re looking for a proactive, confident, and organised professional who enjoys engaging with people face-to-face, getting things done, and delivering high-quality outcomes. In this role, you’ll work across diverse sectors — from transport and energy to water, local councils, and government agencies — contributing to projects of all sizes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance resilience, and drive sustainable infrastructure solutions.
How you’ll make a difference
- Engage and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, including clients, contractors, councils, and internal engineering teams, to maintain strong, productive relationships.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing time, budget, and deadline pressures while ensuring quality delivery.
- Coordinate and organise tasks across teams, keeping workstreams on track and efficiently allocating resources.
- Quickly learn and apply new concepts in sustainability, climate change, and related consultancy or contractor work.
- Support and collaborate with Team and Practice Leads, contributing to strategic planning, project oversight, and continuous improvement.
The qualities that help you thrive

- 2–6 years’ professional experience, ideally in sustainability, climate change, environmental management, compliance, or construction in the New Zealand context.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports, proposals, and technical documentation.
- Consultancy experience preferred, demonstrating the ability to manage client expectations and deliver high-quality advice.
- Specialist knowledge in sustainability areas, such as sustainable procurement, carbon footprinting, climate change, waste management, or resource efficiency.
- Wellington-based, proactive, and organised, confident engaging with clients and stakeholders face-to-face, and motivated to drive projects to completion.
