Key activities
- Performing GIS (remote sensing) analysis on nature-based projects to evaluate their viability. For example and not limited to checking current and previous land use, analysing dynamics of land cover, landscape connectivity, land eligibility data gathering, among other activities.
- Applied research for market solutions.
- Real-case assessment of key requirements of eligibility for nature-based carbon projects, such as additionality, permanence risk, leakage, ex-ante estimates.
- Support in data gathering, writing and reviewing of Project Design Documents following the main standards of the voluntary carbon market.
- Researching market and ecological characteristics of tree species for reforestation plantings and community benefits in the tropics.
- Researching social aspects of the geographical context, benefit-sharing frameworks used in the industry, and potential buyers of the environmental outcomes.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:
- Candidate must be currently enrolled in a university as a MSc student in the Netherlands.
- Has a degree in earth science, geographic information science, environment, agricultural, forestry, ecology and other related courses, or recently graduated. Other backgrounds can also be considered.
- Motivated to research and develop nature-based projects (forestry and agriculture) to tackle the climate crisis using voluntary carbon market standards.
- Fluent in English
- Experience with geoprocessing and statistical analyses is a must.
