AccountAbility is a globally recognized leader in management consulting and sustainability standards, acknowledged by Forbes, the Financial Times and Capital Finance International for our excellence in Sustainability, Strategy, and Governance.

For over three decades, we have operated at the intersection of strategy and long-term value creation, pioneering responsible business practices and developing globally recognized frameworks like the AA1000 Series of Standards.

We provide objective counsel to the world’s most influential businesses, investors, and institutions, helping them navigate their most critical Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) challenges and opportunities.

The Role:

We are hiring a Senior Manager to help lead the growth of our advisory practice. The role combines client-facing business development, delivery leadership across complex multi-stakeholder engagements, and active contribution to building the team and our service offerings.

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with global leadership, the Senior Manager will expand AccountAbility’s presence globally and serve as a senior commercial and technical advisor to Fortune 500 and other top-tier clients.

This is a director-track role for an experienced consulting professional ready to take greater ownership of revenue generation, client portfolio management, and practice development. Success will be defined by sales contribution and growth, effective delivery quality across a portfolio of engagements, and active investment in the team and the firm’s service offerings.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Growth:

• Contribute to Global sales targets, with progressively expanding ownership of pipeline generation, proposal development, and conversion to closed business.

• Personally lead the sale of new engagements with target accounts (Fortune 500 and selected mid-market clients), and expand existing client relationships into multi-workstream, multi-year programs.

• Drive innovation in our service offerings to stay ahead of client needs, differentiate AccountAbility in the market, and address emerging trends in sustainability and ESG.

• Actively engage with and participate in professional industry organizations, forums, and conferences to build the AccountAbility brand and generate new business leads.

Client Delivery & Advisory:

• Serve as the lead strategic advisor for top-tier clients, engaging directly with C-suite executives and Boards to understand and resolve their most complex business challenges.

• Lead the development and delivery of high-value, tailored sustainability strategies that align with clients’ core business objectives, drive value, and enhance their competitive positioning.

• Provide expert counsel across the firm’s service portfolio, including CSRD readiness, materiality and double materiality assessment, climate strategy and transition planning, sustainable finance, supply chain due diligence, and broader ESG strategy and regulatory compliance.

• Manage and deliver complex large scale, multi-dimensional engagements.

Team & Practice Building:

• Build and manage a team of advisory professionals, including coaching, performance management, and career development of junior consultants.

• Contribute to the firm’s service offerings, methodologies, and published thought leadership.

• Collaborate with global practice leaders to ensure seamless service delivery for multinational clients and contribute to the firm’s global strategy.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a consulting professional with 10-12 years of experience across three required areas: (1) management consulting, (2) business development, and (3) sustainability. Candidates who have a strong track record across two of the three or have not yet fully owned a regional sales target are encouraged to apply; we are open to candidates who are ready for that step rather than already accountable for it.

1. Consulting Track Record

• Minimum 8-10 years at a Big 4 firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG), MBB (McKinsey, Bain, BCG), or recognized strategy or sustainability advisory firm (Kearney, Oliver Wyman, Strategy&, L.E.K., Roland Berger, ERM, Anthesis, or similar). Experience structuring and delivering complex, multi-phase engagements end-to-end, including project economics, team management, and senior client relationship management.

2. Business Development Experience

• Demonstrated contribution to consulting sales and account growth, with a clear trajectory toward owning a revenue target. Experience leading proposals, owning sales pursuits, developing client opportunities, and converting senior-level relationships into engagements. Full ownership of a regional sales target is preferred but not required.

3. Sustainability Expertise

• Substantive experience advising clients on sustainability strategy, ESG, and corporate reporting. Working familiarity with key sustainability and reporting frameworks, including CSRD, GRI, ISSB (IFRS S1 / S2), SASB, TCFD, and the UN SDGs. Experience in one or more priority service areas: materiality and double materiality, climate strategy and transition planning, ESG strategy, sustainable finance, supply chain due diligence, or assurance preparation.

Additional Attributes

• Executive presence and the ability to build credible relationships with senior-level clients, including C-suite executives and Board members

• Team leadership experience, with a track record of attracting, developing, and retaining high-performing consultants

• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving capability, with the ability to apply commercial judgment in ambiguous situations

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop thought leadership and present at industry forums

• Entrepreneurial orientation; comfortable building and growing without a large infrastructure already around you

Education

• Advanced degree (MBA, MA, MS, MPA, or equivalent) from a recognized institution preferred. Bachelor’s degree required in business, economics, environmental science, engineering, public policy, or a related field.

What We Offer

• A director-track role with direct access to the CEO and global leadership

• Competitive compensation, including a performance bonus of 20-25% of base salary at target (see Arrangement & Compensation below)

• A platform to establish thought leadership in a priority area for global business, leveraging AccountAbility’s three-decade brand and the AA1000 Series of Standards

• Autonomy to influence the growth of the Global practice and the firm’s service portfolio

• Public Benefit Corporation mission focused on practical, lasting impact

Start Date: Immediate

Location: New York, NY. In-office presence four (4) days per week is required, with remote work flexibility on Fridays. Candidates must currently reside in the New York metropolitan area or be willing to relocate to the New York metropolitan area at their own expense prior to start.
