Job Description

We’re looking for a Substations Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for overseeing and managing all electrical aspects of the substation upgrades and construction works. Your key duties include coordinating electrical work crews, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining high-quality standards. You’ll liaise with project managers, engineers, and on-site teams to ensure timely and within-budget project completion.

The Project

ACCIONA is a key delivery partner in Western Australia’s Clean Energy Link – North project, which is part of the state’s largest transmission upgrade to support renewable energy integration. The company is responsible for constructing approximately 27 km of 132kV transmission line, installing 6.7 km of underground cable, and completing 17 km of overhead line stringing, along with significant substation and terminal upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Electrical Construction Activities – Manage all electrical aspects of substation construction, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications and standards.
  • Coordinate and Lead Work Crews – Supervise electrical teams and subcontractors, allocate resources effectively, and ensure work fronts progress in accordance with the construction program.
  • Ensure Compliance and Safety – Enforce adherence to ACCIONA’s procedures, permits, and safety requirements, ensuring compliance with WHS regulations, ISO standards, and Australian electrical infrastructure codes.
  • Manage Project Time, Cost, and Quality – Balance resources, schedule, and budget constraints to meet milestones; monitor productivity, address non-conformities, and uphold quality standards across all project stages.
  • Problem-Solving and Risk Management – Identify and mitigate technical and operational risks, resolve unforeseen issues promptly, and implement contingency plans to maintain progress and budget control.
  • Stakeholder and Team Communication – Liaise with project managers, engineers, and on-site teams to maintain alignment, provide clear direction, and ensure accurate reporting of project performance and status.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement and Innovation – Promote collaboration, learning, and process optimisation across the site, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, and quality performance.

Required Skills And Competencies

  • Technical Electrical Expertise – Strong understanding of high-voltage (HV) substation construction, commissioning, and maintenance, including electrical systems, plant, and equipment operation.
  • Leadership and Team Management – Proven ability to lead and motivate work crews, delegate effectively, resolve conflicts, and foster a safe, productive, and positive work culture.
  • Project Coordination and Planning – Skilled in scheduling, resource allocation, and managing multiple work fronts to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Safety and Compliance Knowledge – In-depth understanding of WHS legislation, ACCIONA procedures, and Australian electrical standards, with the ability to enforce and monitor compliance on site.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making – Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to assess risks, troubleshoot technical issues, and make timely, informed decisions in dynamic site conditions.
