The Role

As a Financial Analyst at Accela, you will apply rigorous financial analysis to assess how companies are navigating the transition to a low-carbon economy. Your primary focus will be the Oil & Gas sector, one of the most carbon- and capital-intensive parts of the global economy and one where investment decisions made today will shape the energy system for decades. You will analyse company strategy, financial performance and transition credibility, assessing how firms allocate capital, manage transition risks and position themselves for a low-carbon future. This includes:

• Building and maintaining integrated financial and emissions models 
• Analysing capital allocation decisions, transition plans and emissions trajectories 
• Distinguishing financially credible strategies from greenwashing 
• Translating complex analysis into clear insights for investors 
• Contributing to high-impact research that informs real investment decisions 

While the analytical work is rigorous, this is not a traditional corporate analyst role. About You

We’re looking for someone who combines strong financial capability with curiosity, adaptability and alignment with Accela’s mission. You may currently be working in investment banking, private equity, consulting, asset management or a superannuation fund and are looking to apply your analytical skills in a more purpose-driven environment. We’re particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate:

• Experience in financial markets, investment banking, private equity, consulting or superannuation, with strong knowledge of corporate finance, capital markets or strategic advisory 
• Advanced financial modelling, valuation and analytical capability, with strong Excel skills and familiarity with financial databases (e.g. Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ) 
• Experience developing clear investment insights from complex data 
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability 
• The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with others 
• Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex analysis into clear narratives 
• A curious, adaptable mindset and willingness to explore opportunities beyond a narrowly defined role 
• Alignment with Accela’s mission to support the global transition to a low-carbon economy 
• Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce, Business, Mathematics, Science or Engineering 
• Sector experience within energy (oil & gas, utilities, renewables) is highly desirable but not essential.
