In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be

• Responsible for leading the venture build process of the New 1882 Energy Ventures.
• This involves identifying and evaluating opportunities, building and scaling business models, validating new venture concepts and helping our venture grow.
• The New 1882 Energy Ventures mission is to build new businesses and invest in new businesses that will change the nature of the energy system and support the energy transition into a more digitized, decarbonized, and decentralized energy system.
• The planned growth trajectory is as follows: Year 1 - 2 number of ventures, Year 2 - 4 number of ventures, Year 3 - 6 number of ventures
• The New Energy Venture Studio will create new sources of long-term value for AP and must collaborate closely and harmoniously with the core business to leverage assets that will give the venture studio an unfair advantage.
• The Studio will also need to collaborate with external partners and stakeholders to ensure we can deliver on the investment thesis.

To Succeed In This Role, We Need Someone Who

• At least 3-5 years experience in entrepreneurial roles (through employment, being a startup founder, a corporate business developer, an innovation role, investor or through work in a venture builder, corporate finance officer, investment analyst)
• Data gathering and analysis experience including but not limited to customer interviews, market research, industry research and analytical modeling
• Awareness, if not deep practical experience, of Lean Startup methodologies
• Prefer for awareness, if not deep practical understanding, of the Energy Industry.
• Exceptional ability to communicate effectively to senior stakeholders.
• Prefer having experience in a corporate venture studio for another firm.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven experience as a founder, co-founder, or early team leader in a startup that reached product–market fit or early scale
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional teams including product, design, ops, and GTM in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment
• Experience taking a venture from zero to first customers, including hands-on involvement in GTM planning, pricing, customer discovery, and iteration cycles
• Comfortable working with ambiguous, loosely defined problem statements and shaping them into structured, testable opportunities
• Experience working in or alongside a venture studio, accelerator, or innovation lab
• Familiarity with venture financing (SAFEs, convertible notes, cap tables), investment processes, and early fundraising
• Strong grasp of lean startup principles, growth metrics, and financial modeling
• Exposure to regulated or infrastructure-heavy industries (e.g., energy, climate tech, mobility) is a strong plus
• Deep understanding of what makes a startup team succeed including the ability to coach founders and assess entrepreneurial potential
