Description
Location:
San Diego, California. Candidate must currently reside in the San Diego County region or must be willing to relocate within sixty (60) days of hire.
Hybrid work model: 60% on-site as needed, 40% remote.
General Summary:
The Project Manager will drive critical infrastructure projects with regulatory oversight from inception through completion. The projects are within transmission and distribution line capital and corrective maintenance program initiatives. The position serves as a liaison to service providers, multiple contractors, and internal IT teams. The incumbent in this role will efficiently meet project safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals, while managing internal and external stakeholders across multiple business units. This position will work with multiple departments and processes to support work execution, problem solving, planning, and process improvement. The Project Manager will proactively lead and facilitate teams through issues and is responsible for the efficient execution of work items and conditions of the areas in which they are assigned.
This position involves office and field deliverable activities, including onsite meetings at high voltage electrical substations, test facilities, and corporate campuses. Commitment to safety is paramount.
Supervision Level:
Reports to Manager, Transmission & Distribution Program Delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Leads project teams in siting, environmental, permitting, planning, estimating, engineering, right- of-way acquisition, project controls, bid phase services, procurement, constructability reviews, material management, construction management, and closeout.
- Reviews blueprints and plans and provides relevant markups or approval.
- Prepares and negotiates contract terms and/or modifications and recommends approvals.
- Responsible for managing scope, cost, schedule, vendors, and contractual deliverables.
- Develops detailed project plans, monitors project milestones, and generates status reports.
- Evaluates and manages risk; incorporates quality measures and standards into project deliverables.
- Manages several project workstreams.
- Directs project progress and establishes administrative guidance on project execution.
- Monitors project budgets and develops monthly variance reports.
- Qualifies and quantifies project issues and risks and develops response plans to resolve.
- Understands current and future business goals and ongoing concerns.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience:
- Project Manager I: A minimum of 3 years of project management experience.
- Project Manager II: A minimum of 5 years of project management experience.
- In addition to project management experience, a minimum of 3 years of relevant or related industry experience.
A combination of experience, education, and/or training which demonstrates the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Experience with managing multiple fast paced electric transmission and distribution capital and maintenance construction projects, from inception through completion.
- Experience working in a regulated utility/energy, DOE, DOD, or equivalent environment.
- Experience with General Order 95 (GO 95), General Order (GO128), and rule 18.
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders, scheduling demands, and ad-hoc requests.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; skillset will be evaluated prior to engagement.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, planning, and follow-up skills. Knowledge of:
- Research methods, including data collection, analysis, critical thinking, and problem solving.
- Project planning, scheduling, cost management, budget forecasting, and risk qualification, quantification, and mitigation.
- Principles and practices of project management as defined by Project Management Institute (PMI) or accredited standards.
- Principles and practices of electrical design and planning.
- Agile and scrum project management methodologies.
- Safe working practices, building codes, and regulations applicable to the assigned projects.
- NERC and FERC standards, regional requirements, policies, and procedures.
- MS Office suite, MS Project, Primavera (P6), Bluebeam, or equivalent project planning tools. Ability to:
- Work well under pressure.
- Influence others and convey complex project and program deliverables concisely.
- Work in a dynamic, fast-moving team environment and independently as needed.
Technical Knowledge of the Following:
- Change Management, Scope Management, Stakeholder Management, Technical Project Management.
- Fit/Gap Analysis.
- Project Administration, Project Controls, Project Documentation, Project Implementation.
- Project Lifecycle Management (PLM), Project Planning, Project Scheduling, Project Scoping.
- Budgetary Controls.
- Project Management Software.
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, project management, electrical engineering, or equivalent field; equivalent experience with customer approval.
- Active Project Management Professional (PMP), scrum, or agile certification preferred.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. In delivering projects, the incumbent will work in and around high voltage, energized electric equipment.
- Sit or stand at a desk and use a computer workstation for up to 6 hours per day.
- Reach and use hands and fingers to feel objects or controls.
- Climb stairs and walk on uneven or unpaved surfaces.
- Traverse inclined or rough terrain.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Work in and around high voltage energized electric equipment.

Salary:
The salary range for this role is $80,000 – $125,000. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in San Diego, CA. This is the lowest to highest pay scale we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
