2050 Partners, now part of West Monroe, is seeking a mission-driven Senior Consultant to join our team in a fully remote role. In this role, you will directly contribute to the execution and management of decarbonization consulting projects that advance the development of future greenhouse gas-reducing building codes and appliance standards. We are looking for team members who are passionate about understanding clients’ pain points and delivering pragmatic solutions; dedicated to our purpose of shortening the path to carbon neutrality; and enthusiastic about developing data-driven solutions in a collaborative and dynamic consulting environment.

Depending on experience, initial assignments may include the following project areas:

  • Codes and standards advocacy work, including federal and state appliance standards and test procedures, national model building codes, and industry standards
  • Technical and project support for our role as technology and codes and standards experts in the California Market Transformation Administrator (MTA) program
  • State building codes advancement and advocacy in multiple states
  • Advocacy and education related to electric vehicle charging infrastructure and transportation emission reduction
  • Advocacy and strategic policy design for local, state, and national building performance standards
Responsibilities
  • Be a trusted advisor for our clients by providing pragmatic advice based on defensible data and analysis
  • Manage and contribute to multiple projects including technical research and analysis, client engagement, subcontractor management, and external stakeholder engagement including:
    • Scoping and launching new projects
    • Supporting primary and secondary research
    • Procuring test equipment and arranging laboratory tests
    • Supporting laboratory and field investigations
    • Fostering coalition-building
    • Supporting legal, regulatory, and policy reviews
  • Develop and maintain budget forecasts and project schedules across multiple projects
  • Coordinate research with state programs and independent entities
  • Ensure high-quality deliverables, including spreadsheets with supporting calculations, memos, reports, and presentations
  • Contribute to business development and proposal writing
Required qualifications and competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field; bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred; higher degrees such as master’s or Ph.D. can substitute for up to 2 years of relevant experience
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Comfort contributing to complex projects with a problem-solving orientation that prioritizes client needs
  • Highest ethical standards
  • Ability to distill complex technical findings into accessible summaries, tailor content to diverse stakeholders, and maintain consistency and rigor across multi-section documents with multiple contributors
  • Project management track record; strong organizational skills with experience coordinating interdisciplinary teams to manage timelines and deliverables
  • Ability to collaborate well with people at all levels within an organization

Desired qualifications and competencies
  • National, state, and local building energy code development or implementation (e.g., California Title 24, Part 6; Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State (ECCCNYS); ASHRAE 90.1; International Energy Conservation Code)
  • Experience related to federal and/or state appliance standards, test procedures, and specifications (e.g., DOE, California Title 20, ENERGY STAR)
  • Experience related to building performance standards
  • Research, development, or implementation of codes and standards for electric vehicle charging infrastructure or transportation electrification
  • Research, testing, or standards development for water heating
  • Research, testing, or standards development for motors and drives
  • Experience with industrial process loads or industrial product energy efficiency measures
