Technical Funding Consultant for the green energy transition

1st Mile’s work is focused exclusively on the energy transition. Day to day, you will work alongside CEOs, CTOs, innovation managers and project directors – from start-ups and scale-ups to some of Denmark’s largest renewable energy developers, industrial companies, utilities and research organisations – helping them turn innovative technologies into funded projects and commercial reality.


1st Mile’s role is to help clients secure national and European funding by developing funding and commercialisation strategies, building strong project consortia, preparing competitive applications and advising on technology positioning, implementation and market deployment.


At 1st Mile, you will build long-term client relationships and act as a trusted strategic advisor, not simply move from one delivery to the next.


As Technical Funding Consultant, you will work across client engagements on competitive funding applications for Danish and European programmes. In practice, this means understanding and interpreting emerging technologies, translating their potential into compelling impact narratives, coordinating with project partners and consortium members, and writing the technical and strategic sections of funding applications.


A central part of the work is connecting technical solutions to measurable outcomes — CO₂ reductions, energy savings, economic growth, job creation — because funding programmes evaluate projects on their expected impact. Your ability to do this clearly and convincingly, across a range of technologies and schemes, will be critical.


With direct access to the CEO and real influence over how projects are shaped and delivered, you will have the autonomy to take ownership of your work and your client relationships.


In addition, you will align your contributions with your colleagues’ input and produce clear technology descriptions, sustainability assessments, impact analyses and other technical sections of the applications.

Application deadlines are known well in advance and we plan accordingly. During quieter periods, there is genuine time for professional development and process improvement.


You come from a position where you analyse, describe or assess technologies and their environmental, technical or commercial impact. You may have gained your experience in industry, consulting, research, academia or another organisation working with technology development, sustainability or the green transition.


In terms of education, you can for example have an MSc or PhD in engineering, energy systems, environmental science or a related technical discipline, and preferably some years of experience in energy technology, innovation consulting, research or a related field.


You are comfortable working with technical analyses and can turn complex information into clear, convincing descriptions that show how technologies create value through CO₂ reductions, energy savings, growth and employment effects.


You have experience producing structured, evidence-based documents — such as funding applications, research proposals or academic reports — and are comfortable developing detailed work plans, budgets and milestone structures.


Familiarity with the logic of Danish or European funding programmes is an advantage. Experience with GHG assessments, LCA, energy modelling, State Aid rules, green energy or energy infrastructure is also beneficial but not a requirement.


General experience in writing applications for funding programmes is an advantage, and experience with complex programmes such as the EU Innovation Fund is likewise an advantage.


Your written English is at near-native level. All client communication, applications and internal work are in English.


You work independently, in a structured way and with strong attention to detail, while staying focused on meeting tight deadlines. You keep track of several parallel and complex processes with many participants, and you ensure that all processes run as planned, whether you are responsible for them or not.
