Job Description: Mechanical Engineer (Mechanical Drafter | Mechanical Engineer | Senior Mechanical Engineer)

Location: Downtown San Diego, CA 92101

We are seeking skilled and motivated Mechanical professionals across multiple experience levels to join our team in the building industry. This opportunity is open to candidates ranging from entry-level drafters to experienced and senior mechanical engineers specializing in building systems.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles as applied to building systems, with experience or interest in HVAC, energy efficiency, and coordination within multidisciplinary MEP teams. A solid working knowledge of California regulations, including the California Building Code and California Mechanical Code, is essential for engineering-level roles. Proficiency in Revit and BIM software is a critical component of this position.

Responsibilities and level of responsibility will be aligned with the candidate's experience, skill set, and licensure.

Responsibilities:

Mechanical Design & Documentation

  • Assist with or lead the design and development of mechanical systems for building projects, including HVAC and related systems.
  • Prepare mechanical layouts, schematics, and construction documents utilizing AutoCAD and Revit/BIM software.
  • Ensure compliance with California regulations, codes, and applicable industry standards.
  • Perform or support engineering calculations, system sizing, and performance analysis, as applicable to role level.

Coordination & Project Support

  • Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing disciplines.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and internal project reviews.
  • Support project execution through document coordination, quality control, and timely delivery of assigned tasks.

Engineering Leadership (Mid- to Senior-Level)

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Review mechanical drawings and calculations for completeness, accuracy, and constructability.
  • Participate in client communications and respond to technical inquiries.
  • Support project management efforts related to scope, schedules, and deliverables.

Professional Development

  • Stay current with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in mechanical engineering and building systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, sustainability, and overall design quality.

Requirements:

Mechanical Drafter / Junior Level

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree (or ongoing coursework) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit experience preferred.
  • Understanding of mechanical building systems and construction documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Mechanical Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in mechanical design for building systems.
  • Working knowledge of the California Building Code and California Mechanical Code.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit/BIM.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering within the building industry.
  • Strong knowledge of California codes and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Ability to lead projects, coordinate across disciplines, and mentor junior staff.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in California preferred but not required.
  • Experience with sustainable design practices and energy efficiency is a plus.
